My Secret Hotel Episode 1 Review Korean Drama Fashion Recap
Not another divorced couple story again! I think we’ve had our fill of this plot from the likes of Emergency Couple and Cunning Single Lady. And what’s with the name of the hotel? My Secret Hotel sounds like a cheap perfume. Or a dingy, shady hotel frequented only by people staying less than 24 hours. Eww.
Anyhow, My Secret Hotel, the first two episodes at the time of this writing, surprised me and made me think never to judge a drama by its title. It is rich in feels and it holds promise of more. We also get to see Jin Lee Han in his first ever starring role (I think?) and his first ever non-annoying acting job (according to some). And Yoo In Na. Have I convinced you enough?
The story starts a busy bee Nam Sang Hyo (Yoo In Na). She is one of the managers of My Secret Hotel and mostly in charge of wedding preparations for clients. She’s very experienced and meticulous by the looks of it.
I liked Nam Sang Hyo’s style right off the bat. But then again Kdramas really do female corporate styling really well. I think mandarin-collared tops for men and women are making a comeback. I’ve been seeing them a lot in Kdramas as of late.
Nam Sang Hyo’s top is from a brand called Essential.
What’s a wedding with a few kinks here and there, right? Here’s one: Assistant Manager Hwang. He is under Nam Sang Hyo but he seems to be missing all the time. He was in charge of the ice sculpture but just left it there in the open, melting. Sang Hyo told one of her crew to keep on calling him until he picks up the phone.
Nam Sang Hyo expertly handles another problem – a relative of the bride complains that her wallet has been stolen. Sang Hyo agreed to call the police but requested her if she can wait until after the wedding to file a report.
The last problem she had to deal with is the groom, Goo Hae Young (played by Jin Lee Han), who looks more like a person on death row rather than a happy groom. She gave him some soothing tea. Great for the nerves, she said.
But the way Hae Young is staring at Sang Hyo tells us there’s more to this story than meets the eye. They know each other or he wouldn’t be that familiar.
At the banquet hall, this guest ahjussi keeps staring at something on the ceiling. There’s a growing spot there – like droplets of blood.
Sang Hyo oversees the ceremony. When Hae Young walked down the aisle, his eyes meet Sang Hyo’s. In her mind, Sang Hyo is saying goodbye to Hae Young. This is really it. This is goodbye.
But before Hae Young can reach the altar, a man dropped from the ceiling.
2 Weeks Earlier:
Back to two weeks earlier, the hotel team, spearheaded by managing director Jo Sung Gyum (played by Nam Gung Min) is having a meeting about the current decline of the hotel. There seems to be a rumor going around that people who get married in their hotel divorce three months later. And when Sung Gyum asked Sang Hyo, she admitted that they did conduct a survey before and a large percentage of people who got married there last year divorced three months later. But the documents have been destroyed, said Sang Hyo. Sung Gyum told her to do something to dispel the rumors.
I’m eyeing Yeo Eun Joo’s (Lee Young Eun) style in this drama as well. Although chic-corporate as well, her style is different from that of Sang Hyo’s, who’s more into tailored clothes. Eun Joo loves remixes, judging from this oversized blazer look.
Two weeks ago prior to walking down the disastrous aisle, Hae Young is also holding a meeting whilst playing on his phone. Their meeting is interrupted by a girl, who just learned that he’s about to be married and feels like she’s being slighted because she has been holding a torch for him all these years.
The girl reminded Hae Young of the woman he loved so much, he married her in Las Vegas. And then Hae Young wondered, if she knew he’s getting married, would she be shocked?
Goo Hae Young’s bracelet is from Gucci.
We also know that the petty thievery in their events has been going on for some time now. But because there are a lot of people in these events, the CCTV cameras aren’t much help.
Here’s a better look at what Sang Hyo’s wearing. Her take on the white-on-white trend. If I work in the corporate world, I’d definitely copy this look.

Sung Gyum wondered if she’s offended by his insinuation earlier in the meeting about the leaking of the survey. She’s not but she’d appreciate it if he doesn’t show his antagonism towards General Manager in front of the others as it makes them uncomfortable.
Sung Gyum appreciated her candor and if she wishes to voice more of her opinions, she can do so over dinner – a roundabout way of asking her out.
Another person is setting her sights on the eligible managing director – Eun Joo, who has been pretending to wait for him by the elevator.
Love that striped oversized blazer! I love everything about this look, including her understated long necklace.

Eun Joo is about to eat her heart out though because Sang Hyo already beat her to a dinner date. Sang Hyo rubs it on Eun Joo that she’s going to have dinner with the boss.
Dinner progressed well. Hae Young wondered why Sang Hyo had to leave Las Vegas, where she used to live and work. And why is her English name different? Was she married? Sang Hyo squirmed uncomfortably in her seat but answered that she wanted a good challenge, which is why she traded her position abroad in favor of what she has here.
Hae Young asked her about the food in the restaurant and she said it’s good. Hae Young commented that even Eun Joo likes the food there. Sang Hyo did a double take. He took Eun Joo out too? Hae Young said he hopes Sang Hyo didn’t assume this is a date.
Sang Hyo talked to general manager Lee Moo Yang to talk about firing Assistant Manager Hwang. He has been MIA all the time and neglecting his work.
I would comment on Sang Hyo’s lovely look if I’m not so distracted by her itty bitty waistline. No wonder Yoo In Na is often nominated for having the best S-line in the k-entertainment industry!
Nam Sang Hyo’s sheer top is from Time and her skirt is from Jill Stuart but I can’t find them online.
If you guys ever worry about what you’ll wear for work next, just watch this drama. It’s teeming with inspiration. I like Eun Joo’s ensemble here, what little I can see of it anyway. T-shirt slogans with blazers are fail-proof!
They’re about to meet new clients – a couple who has decided to hold their wedding in their hotel. The two wished it’s not an old guy before entering the room. It’s a giddy young woman and her husband-to-be also just arrived.
The future groom is none other than Hae Young! Sang Hyo recognizes him right away and tries to hide. But there’s clearly no hiding so she has no choice but to introduce herself as if they don’t know each other. Hae Young is also taken aback. When he wondered how she’ll react if she knew he’s getting married, this isn’t how he pictured it.
Took a screenshot of Hae Young’s watch because it’s amazing!

The two had a hard time going to sleep that night after the serendipitous encounter. Ehe.
Sang Hyo’s pretty confident that Hae Young will back out of the plan to hold the wedding at My Secret Hotel (I have to get used to saying this).

MZUU Adorable Earrings, 65,000 Won
Sure enough, Hae Young is adamant that they not hold the wedding there.
But… the bride got her way! She’s really set on getting married at MSH.
Crisp button down shirt has never looked better. Only Sang Hyo can make this look so feminine.

Sang Hyo’s next course of action to make sure that this wedding does not happen in MSH is to talk some sense into Hae Young. He’s clearly unfazed by it all and even seems amused.
He started reminiscing about their own wedding (if you didn’t catch on yet, that girl he married in Vegas was Sang Hyo). He made a mockery of the wedding and their very short marriage, hurting Sang Hyo. You didn’t have to put it that way, Sang Hyo said before walking out, near tears.
Sang Hyo is drowning her feels in alcohol when she’s joined by Sung Gyum, who is also there for a drink. Sung Gyum sensed something wrong with Sang Hyo and asked her about it. Instead of answering, she tears up and drinks some more.
Sung Gyum called Eun Joo to help take Sang Hyo home.
They took her to the hotel instead so she can crash in one of the rooms there. In her drunken state, she asked Sung Gyum to marry her. Sung Gyum humored her and said yes, much to Eun Joo’s outrage. Lol.
Eun Joo’s lovely outfit is wasted. Lol. That printed dress is pretty. Her shoes are from Staccato and her clutch is from La Nueu.
Finally, a better look at what Sang Hyo wore. She really loves her high-rise pants. They’re also making a comeback, eh? Ji Hae Soo in It’s Okay, That’s Love is also fond of them.
Sang Hyo was sober the next day. She’s immediately reminded of her antics the night before by the hotel staff who saw her propose to the director. Sung Gyum doesn’t seem offended though. He even teased her, saying he’s disappointed the proposal isn’t for real.
Sang Hyo wore a pair of metallic platform pumps with this outfit, by the way. She toted the bag pictured above.
The missing Assistant Manager Hwang is back. As if he’s not shady enough, he also holds what looks like a knife in his hands. He brandishes it around while Sang Hyo admonishes him of his frequent absences.
The knife is actually for the ice sculpture he’s making. We also see that A.Manager Hwang meets up with GM Lee covertly as if the two are plotting something. GM Lee told AM Hwang that Sang Hyo proposed to fire him.
After the disastrous talk with Sang Hyo, Hae Young decided to put his foot down and end the contract with MSH. But en route to the Sang Hyo’s office, he overheard a few employees talking about Sang Hyo’s proposal.
While Sang Hyo was chattering happily about the terms of the contract termination, Hae Young is stewing on the proposal. Really? You’re getting married? He muses.
To spite her, he rips the contract and says he’s not going through with it anymore.
Hae Young’s blazer is from Renoma.
