Pinocchio Episode 3 Review
The story so far: Ki Ha Myeong came from a middle-class family – loving parents and an older brother (Ki Jae Myeong), who, like him, is somewhat a genius. His father, a head fire fighter, takes pride in his sons’ brains and often brags about them to his co-workers.
But their Hallmark lives are about to change. Their dad led his crew to fight a burning building. One of the workers told them there are still two more guys trapped inside. So the dad spearheaded the rescue. But the two guys were actually the perpetrators of the fire and they were the first ones to get out. Too late because the dad and his team are already inside. A blast from the inside killed them.
When the investigations are going through, the worker who told the fire fighters were still in the building gave a false testimony. He said he already told the leader there were no people inside but he still insisted on going. And to top it all off, his body has not been found. One of their neighbors, a guy who has Pinocchio syndrome, which pretty much means he can’t lie without hiccupping, saw someone that looks a lot like Ki Ha Myeong’s dad. He told everyone about it and they thought he abandoned his team and is now escaping punishment.
The story was sensationalized by the media and they were now hounding Ki Ha Myeong’s family. His mom got depressed and she took Ha Myeong to a nearby cliff to watch the fireworks but took her son with her when she leapt to her death.
Ha Myeong lived but was taken in by an old man, who mistook him for his son who drowned in the same ocean years ago. The old man is Choi In Ha’s grandfather. To protect the old man, they agreed to let Ha Myeong take the place of In Ha’s dead uncle, Choi Dal Po.
Ha Myeong hates reporters for the false reports they said that led to his father’s bad reputation and his mom’s death. He particularly hates Song Cha Ok, a ruthless reporter, who turned out to be In Ha’s estranged mom.
In Ha and Ha Myeong grew up together, went to the same high school together and lived together. A circumstance in school made In Ha decide to become a reporter.
Get Choi Dal Po’s Sweater (Lee Jong Suk Sweater):
In Ha has already graduated from college and is now looking for a job at different news station. So far, she hasn’t had much luck.
There’s not much style to go around with her. She’s mostly in sweatpants at home but you really can’t be disgusted with that when she looks so fresh all the time!
Get Choi In Ha’s Sweater (Park Shin Hye Sweater):
Mag/Mag Ribbed Sweater, 64,600 Won
Get Choi In Ha’s Pants (Park Shin Hye Jeans):
Lace pencil skirt at home? Who wears lace pencil skirts at home? On the other hand, love her boxy top.
Choi In Ha’s boxy shirt here is from DEWL, her lace skirt is from Andy & Debb and her watch is from Agatha Paris.
Song Cha Ok is now one of the leading anchors in the country.
When she’s not in knitted sweaters, she’s often seen with a hoodie on when she’s at home. Choi Dal Po still beats her at the sloppy department though.
Choi In Ha’s hoodie is from UNIQLO, her shirt is from Sandro, her pants are from Abercombie & Fitch and her necklace is from Agatha Paris.
Dal Po’s now a full-fledged taxi driver. Turned out that the family couldn’t afford to send them both to college so Dal Po gave way towards In Ha’s education.
In Ha cleaned up for her job interview. Gone are the days when people bring suitcases with them to job interviews. In Korea, a leather backpack is more than enough in capping off a work attire.
Get Choi In Ha’s Backpack (Park Shin Hye’s Backpack):
Bruno Magli Backpack, 441,000 Won
You can’t get more basic than In Ha’s suit, white button down shirt and pumps attire. But trust them to introduce some key (and iconic) elements to the outfit such as her necklace with a pendant that was supposedly given by Dal Po for good luck.
Choi In Ha’s button pendant necklace is also from Agatha Paris:

Choi In Ha’s Watch (Park Shin Hye Watch):
Agatha Paris Starluxe Leather Watch, $185.00
Get Choi Dal Po’s Inner Sweater (Lee Jong Suk Sweater):
Beslow Long Sleeve Henley T-shirt in Grey, 68,000 Won
In Ha was overcome with joy when she got a text from her mom saying “fighting”. She has been sending messages to her mom over the years but hasn’t gotten a reply until that day, hence the tears of joy. She’s actually applying for a job at her mom’s news company.
So what happened to Dal Po’s older brother, Jae Myeong? He’s now working different jobs.
Coincidentally, an old man bumped Jae Myeong’s truck. Dal Po helped the old man and told him he’s going to take responsibility for the damaged truck. The two brothers almost met but Dal Po left after leaving his number on the truck’s windshield.
Sweater couple! It’s that time of the year already when dramas are already riddled with coats and chunky sweaters.
In Ha’s dad, Dal Pyeong found Dal Po’s wallet that he left at home. Inside it, he saw In Ha’s photo. Dal Po covered it up and said it was only a spare for In Ha’s applications but Dal Pyeong doesn’t seem convinced there’s nothing in the wind.
In Ha just taking her situation in. And here’s a better look at her outfit. The details are as follows:

During the interview, In Ha meets her mom for the first time in a long time. It wasn’t a happy reunion though. The mom questioned her ability to become a reporter with her Pinocchio syndrome. To test her, she asked her to go undercover and call a suspected establishment to get an appointment. She couldn’t do it so she flunked the interview.
For show, Cha Ok hugged In Ha. But when In Ha told her how much she missed her, Cha Ok said she doesn’t have the luxury of time to miss her.
It crushed her illusions and went out of the building crying. Dal Po saw her and followed her.
Dal Po already knew what happened so when he saw Cha Ok hitching a cab, he offered. He told her he’s In Ha’s friend and didn’t curb his tongue about what he thinks of reporters. Cha Ok told him that he is in no position to question her as a reporter since he doesn’t know the industry.
Meanwhile, Jae Myeong was out drinking with a co-worker, talking about his damaged truck, when he overheard three guys from a nearby table talk about a fire accident. It sounded suspiciously like what happened to his dad. He couldn’t confirm his suspicions though because the three guys already left.
After being rejected once again, In Ha was ready to quit. She left home, causing everyone to think she run away. Dal Po found her at the rooftop but thought she was there to commit suicide. He was remembering his mom’s suicide, you see.
But In Ha was only there to burn her books. Dal Po stopped her and told her he’ll need the books. Because from hereon, he’ll study to become a reporter just like her.
Get Choi In Ha’s Luggage (Park Shin Hye’s Luggage):
Mandarina Duck Luggage, 568,100 Won
Previously, In Ha realized the person she has been sending text messages to wasn’t her mom. So she called that number and cried over the phone and yelled at the person who duped her. It could have been easy for that person to text her that she has the wrong number. That person was actually Seo Bum Jo, a chaebol. And Seo Bum Jo, who has learned quite a lot about In Ha’s life became interested to meet her in person.
It turned out that Dal Po’s need to become a reporter was spurned by his talk with Cha Ok. He was challenged and told her he’ll become a reporter so he can have a right to “bark at her tree”.
