The Heirs Episode 18 Fashion Recap and Review:
Kim Tan relinquishes the privilege of loving Cha Eun Sang to Choi Young Do. This should have been music to Young Do’s ears but he was having none of Kim Tan’s crap.
Meanwhile, Kim Won is home. The Chairman tried to shoo him away but Won said he isn’t here for the Chairman. We assume he is here for Kim Tan because he is being plagued with guilt over the latter’s road to destruction.
I almost didn’t pay attention to the two men in this scene because Kim Tan’s mom just walked in wearing a 40s-inspired dress with a quirky bug print! I’m not a fan of bugs in real life but I could be persuaded into buying a dress with a bug print.
Kim Tan causes an uproar at home when he arrived looking all defeated and beaten up. Kim Won goes up to his room and suggested they go see a doctor. But Tan won’t budge and pleaded to his hyung to let him go to America and save him. If that doesn’t break down the walls you have put up to fend off Kim Tan, Won, I don’t know what will. I really think it’s time for Kim Won to step up to the task of being a brother to Tan.
Won goes back to his hotel, only to bump into Young Do, who bears the marks of Tan’s punches. Won asked him if he fought with Tan and suggested he treat his wounds or they will leave scars.
With all the goings-on in Kim Tan’s love and family life, it’s easy to forget the other characters in the drama. This scene is a nice reminder.
I would have loved to see the whole of Lee Bo Na’s ensemble. I want to see more of the plaid clothing peeking out from under her grey coat.
Chan Young is dressed in his usual formula – a plain sweater with a printed shirt underneath and a coat to top it off. The look should be tiring to see by now but surprisingly, I like this utilitarian get up on Chan Young.
Cha Eun Sang is dressed similarly. This formula works even for women, see? She checks her social media account (I forgot the one they are using – SNS?) and sees the ones Kim Tan posted and proceeded to deleting all of them.
Apparently, Kim Tan is also checking on her SNS. Why must he be subjected to another blow?
Attempting to get Kim Tan back to the land of the living is Hyo Shin. I’ve suddenly run out of words for Kim Tan’s usual get up.
Hyo Shin, on the other hand, wore this coat to perfection. We, mere mortals, would have probably been contented with zipping the thing down and wearing it like a nondescript coat. Hyo Shin, on the other hand, keeps the collar stiff. Rock it, Hyo Shin!
Young Do’s waiting skills should be commended. The poor guy again waits for Cha Eun Sang near her home. Judging from his attire, which is his school uniform plus a coat over it, he seemed to have skipped school to go here.
He ran into Eun Sang’s mom instead. After seeing him before, Cha Eun Sang’s mom invited him in their house and made food for him. Choi Young Do tears up at the gesture. I can also feel my eyes welling up. Young Do must have been remembering his own mom.

Now that Kim Tan is out in the sunlight, we can finally appreciate his outfit more. He walked aimlessly around the neighborhood wearing faded skinny jeans with a button down shirt, a sweater and a navy coat.
A closer look at the coat shows us that it has these green square details. So anyway, as expected (because where else would his feet lead him to but in that dream catcher store?), he bumped into Eun Sang. After a few seconds of intense staring, they pass by each other without uttering a single word.

Here’s the part that had me mentally reaching for a nice piece of blunt wood to bludgeon these characters with. Cha Eun Sang went after Kim Tan after not talking to him on the bus ride home. She didn’t see him and thought he is already gone. She went to back to her house but found Kim Tan waiting for her.
Tan asked her why she went to look for him and attempted to reach out to her. Eun Sang told him to stop. Eun Sang turned away and led to this back hug moment that is fast becoming their thing.
There’s also trouble at home. The Chairman blames the mom for not doing her job well in controlling Kim Tan. He goes on and on about how he made the mistake of bringing her “up” (raising her social status).
Fed up, the mom went to her room, smeared mascara and all, and started taking off her jewels. Finally, she steps up from being just the mom who doesn’t have a say in everything to a woman who wants to take control of her life.
Now that the wedding is off for Esther and Young Do’s dad, it falls unto Rachel Yoo to cancel the wedding dress order.
I love that sweater! Sure it has this winter snowflakes pattern on it but that bow won me over. Plus, styling it with that pair of knee-high boots made this look a winner in my book!
After checking, the bow is actually from an inner sweater.

The Kdrama stying gods must have heard my pleas because Young Do is finally over his black coat fixation. It’s a good change too, in my opinion. I like the coat’s pattern. Kdrama styling isn’t everyone’s cup of tea but you have to give them a gold star for coming up with outfits that fit in the character’s personality.
The red collar is actually a detachable collar. The stylists stayed true to how it was presented on the runway.

Young Do should definitely buy that seat already. Or this shop. He spends so much time here. He notices a note on the graffiti wall though. It’s addressed to him.
Thoughts on Young Do’s turtle neck sweater?
These two should end up together or there’s going to be bloodshed. Apparently, Hyun Joo makes the perfect girlfriend for a powerful man like Kim Won. She said she knows what Kim Won’s dreams are and she isn’t going to stand in his way. Instead, she will cheer him on until he reaches his goals. Kim Won told her to hang in there.
We finally get to see Kim Won go out of his way to help his brother. He pays Eun Sang a visit and makes her question about her decisions. Ultimately, I think he wants her to keep on fighting for Kim Tan. She just has to arrive to that decision on her own.
It’s time for me to pray to the Kdrama gods again to steer Eun Sang away from her drab clothing options. Or save her from being too somber in her styling.

Kim Won came home to find Kim Tan holed up again in the wine cellar. He gave him a letter Eun Sang tucked in his wine bottles. Is this part really necessary? He has already seen her. And talked to her. The letter probably would have more impact had he read it immediately after she left.
But look at that Christmasy sweater. If you have been living under a rock and don’t know winter is already here, this sweater should clue you up.
Another parka but in a different color this time. Huzzah!

This was a bit anticlimactic. I was expecting Cha Eun Sang’s return to have more fireworks than this. She just showed up at school and sat next to a pensive Kim Tan and told him she is back and she is using the exams as an excuse to be with him. I feel like Eun Sang’s character is flighty. She flees at the first sign of trouble.
She was geared up for school nonetheless, in her uniform and red purple coat.
Get Park Shin Hye’s Coat:
Athe Vanessa Bruno Coat, 798,000 Won
The backpack is the same Il Bisonte one she wore a few episodes back. She was also wearing the same Sue Comma Bonnie shoes from a few episodes ago.
She meets Young Do in the hallway but the latter just brushes past her. YD is aware that her re-appearance at school means she is waving the red flag at the Chairman and he worries about her choice.
Aww! Lee Bo Na is all bark and no bite. But you do consider Cha Eun Sang your friend, Lee Bo Na, even if you’d die before you admit it.
Lee Bo Na’s coat resemble the one Cha Eun Sang wore the day she skipped class and went to the theater. Chan Young, on the other hand, looks staid and handsome in that navy coat. Yes, this drama and its overabundance of navy coats.
It’s exam day! How will everyone fare? Now that Eun Sang is here to stay, Kim Tan can finally concentrate on the exams. Are we finally going to see the smart kid who was commended by his teacher in the US back in the second episode?
Look who has something (or someone) else in mind. Rachel Yoo sneaks a glance at Kim Tan.
I’m sure you’ve noticed the embellished shoulder of her cardigan.

Young Do finally approaches Eun Sang and took her up in her promise to treat him to some noodles.
Lee Bo Na expects Cha Eun Sang to crash in her luxurious place once again but the latter texted to say she is going to stay elsewhere.
Ballet flats at home? Yep, Lee Bo Na’s style knows no boundaries.
Myung Soo should definitely charge these two lodging. It turned out Eun Sang is spending the night in his studio again, at the urging of Kim Tan.
They also went to school together.
Mom called Kim Tan to say she probably won’t be home when he gets back.
I would have loved to see the whole outfit but I like what I see. Love that white shirt. Another idea to try if you are running out of ways to style your white shirt.
The mom just wanted to leave but the Chairman insisted on sending her to America to teach her and Kim Tan a lesson. But mom quickly hailed a taxi and left her guards.
She also took the time to throw on this gorgeous black dress coat. The pop of blue courtesy of her shoes makes for an interesting twist to an otherwise monochromatic ensemble.
A closer look at her coat.
She ends up in the school and meets Young Do. She asked Young Do to find Kim Tan for her. Noticing her urgency, he made her wait in his car while he goes off to find Kim Tan.
I felt super proud of YD here. He has come a long way from being a bully to a person who has a deep threshold for caring. This scene is reminiscent to the one he experienced with her mom before. The difference is that Kim Tan listened to him and got away with his mom. I hope things end up well for this guy.
Choi Young Do’s coat is from Time Homme and his shoes are from Tod’s.
After the incident with his mom, Kim Tan went home to ask his dad why he sent guards to go after his mom. He finally said the Chairman can disown him now because he is taking on the task of caring for his mom.
The chairman feigned illness but nobody came to visit him. Only the school chairwoman was there. She is very noticeable in this pink coat.
Pink is definitely the coat color of this season. And can we take a moment to appreciate the collar of her top? It’s a great alternative to the usual pointy collars.
Kim Won told his brother that their father is in the hospital. They both can’t seem to muster enough care for his condition. The chairman already instructed the school chairwoman to arrange Kim Tan’s birthday celebration. Kim Tan said he will go and urged Kim Won to do the same.
It’s nice to see Tan in another color of jacket. He isn’t showing signs of straying away from his usual styling formula though.

The support group already got invites for Kim Tan’s birthday.
Kang Ye Sol’s jacket is from:
A few episodes ago, I predicted that there’s going to be a makeover for Eun Sang some time in this drama. The plot calls for it! Boys over Flowers, ring a bell? This is that moment. Kim Tan sent two guys to get her.
How did Kim Tan manage to look even more dashing?
The new Cha Eun Sang! No frills for her but this bell-sleeved, lace-adorned dress is a great choice. I would have preferred an updo though.
The two of them got to the venue of the birthday. It’s a red carpet event!
Cha Eun Sang drapes a coat over her dress. The draped coat styling has been popular as of late but how do they manage to keep it on?
