Cheongdamdong Alice Review Episode 1: Cheongdamdong Alice is about a girl, Han Se Kyung (played by Moon Geun Young), aspiring to be a designer. She applied for a position at GN Fashion and got in. Unbeknownst to her, she was not accepted because of her skills (or lack thereof) but because GN Fashion’s chairman’s wife is her high school nemesis, Seo Yeon Joo (played by So E-Hyun).
Seo Yeon Joo hated her in high school and to get back at Se Kyung, she hired her even though it’s against the wishes of the head designer, her husband’s dongsaeng, Shin In Hwa.
Han Se Kyung is in cloud 9 after being accepted at GN Fashion. But after she was given errands, she soon found out that she wasn’t accepted at GN Fashion because of her design skills. But since she needs a job, she continued being GN Fashion’s madame’s errand girl.
We also see Cha Seung Jo (played by Park Si Hoo). He currently holds the CEO position of Artemis Korea, one of the most prestigious fashion companies in Korea. It turned out that he carries a lot of emotional baggage. He used to be married to Seo Yeon Joo in France but the latter dropped him for some other richer guy.
Seung Jo and Se Kyung’s path crossed when their cars collided. Seung Jo mistook her for a woman who is in deep debt because of her shopping habits while Se Kyung mistook him for the secretary of Artemis’ CEO.
Se Kyung soon got in trouble with the madame after she lost the warranty of an expensive jewelry. By the end of the episode, the madame finally decided to show her identity to Se Kyung.
Cheongdamdong Alice Fashion Recap Episode 1:
Han Se Kyung is portrayed as diligent design graduate but without a lot of credentials to support her for her job applications. Although she has won a lot of design awards, she doesn’t have the money to either go abroad to practice design or buy designer clothes.
With that in mind, her outfits are usually less flamboyant than the other characters. They keep her garbed in monochromatic outfits in an effort to create that “genteelly poor” image. But still, I think she is stylish.
In this scene, she was wearing a navy blue dress with contrasting white collar. She completed her look with a black coat.
I can’t find the dress in the same navy color but here’s the pink version:
The Tilbury TTCI000705 Dress, 233,100 Won
Tweed clothes seem to be a staple for a sammonim villainess. In fact, our first glimpse of Seo Yeon Joo is in this outfit – tweed jacket over what looks like a black dress. Her jacket is from Ovjet.
She looks the most legit fashionista in this drama because she wears her clothes well. That sequin mustard top draws attention so there’s really no need for upper body jewelry.
And check out Shin In Hwa’s shoes! Structured heels? I can almost hear what little is left of Han Se Kyung’s self-confidence drop to the pit of her stomach.
Han Se Kyung’s coats tend to be confusing because they all look identical! Don’t be discouraged by Se Kyung’s seemingly drab attires though because she is almost always clad in something designer.

There was a scene when Han Se Kyung was daydreaming about the day when she has proven her worth to GN Fashion. She wore one stunning outfit after another. This dress is just one of them.

I like her best with her hair up in a high pony and sporting more colourful ensembles. Here she is in electric blue jacket and this zipper-detailed skirt:

When investing in key pieces, it has to be something that can transcend seasons. And being the thrifty person that she is, Han Se Kyung lives by this rule if her monochromatic coats are any indication.

It doesn’t hurt to add a pop of color to your outfit. Se Kyung chose to do that with this Thyren woolly sweater:
